I think the new Sense of Self getting slowly bigger and building up to the recurring intrusive thoughts worked for the "stress gauge" idea decently enough. Though I also would've loved more elaboration on the new emotions' "positive" purpose and such.

Honestly I liked Inside Out 2, and I honestly thought it was brilliant to have the Sense of Self be pretty vague cause in real life the Sense of Self in pretty vague. I’d say in the Inside Out world the Sense of Self acts a person’s conscious their default rules set for themselves and acts as their own call for an emotion, when someone recognizes what they need they can call the specific emotion to action instead of the emotions running wild as they have been

In the context of Riley's, and being a teenager overall, Anxiety wasn't matured yet, has limited uses at the moment, and almost become a Disorder. But in the context of adults, this emotion is prevalent, your no longer under your parents, and required to be independent, specially being a parent. Anxiety here forces you to go through numerous "reflections" every night, to plan out your future goals, solutions and changes specially when you lacked confidence, its up to you to follow through. In rileys case, Anxiety was just giving her, useless though & overthinking each night Shutting of Anxiety is actually bad, and can lead to Depression, Apathy, and much more worst mental deseases.

The amount of tears I shed in this movie could fill a water fountain. I’ve struggled with severe anxiety for a huge chunk of my life and related heavily to some of the stuff like it taking over the imagination and keeping you up on the what if’s, the panic attacks, and the feeling of not being good enough despite all your efforts. I think the message of anxiety and the regrettable memories being as much apart of who you are because you are human was beautiful

I figured for the other emotions, envy it's self improvement how one can be smarter, stronger and better. How ennui has us tone things down in social situations (it was shown in the movie) and how to handle boring situations. Embarassment is self reflection. When we did something bad and feel unhappy with what we did. Nostalgia is when we deal with unfamiliar situations and us to reminisce about simpler times and when we were happy when dealing with the negativity of the world and with growing up.

The other bit in imagination land was mount crushmore. Probably a subtle hint on what else the imagination focuses on as a teen/adult. Beyond catastrophizing everything. On hot people, the things we want to do with them and all the outfits we want to see them in. We would focus on something that gives us a more adult joy versus the joy from fantasizing of pretending to be a knight or a superhero or something. I figured mount crushmore was the censor approved indicator of a teenage imagination.

Uh, can I ask what that joke at the end was? You fantasize about Bob Iger dying in a helicopter crash? I know you said "let's hope not" but it sounded uncomfortably sinister.

Honestly it was a solid film, I enjoyed it. I remember thinking “this might win best animated feature” then trying to think of what else will even be nominated besides Moana 2, and Kung Fu Panda 4, which made me realize there haven’t been too many animated films this year. Honestly a bit disappointing, but 2023 was a good year for animation, so I'll take it

I just think it’s so cool how they managed to properly represent the ongoing maturity that happens in our minds, like as you grow up everything becomes a lot more complex and everything becomes less broad

As a girl in her late teens with anxiety, I related to Riley a lot. Probably more than I did with the first one. I loved this movie.

You know, I think the more “colorful and cutesy stuff” can sometimes tend to have pretty dark stuff for example in the game “yoshi’s woolly world” bowser turns all the yoshis into yarn to make his castle bigger… so he just skinned all those yoshis alive just to make his flesh castle more fleshier…the only thing that’s giving this game a mature rating is the cute art style to cover it

If they did puberty right, there would’ve been lust… DUH. But, in America, we don’t talk about sex. 😂

Now that Inside Out 2 is out I can focus hype around MY Barbenheimer: Wild Robot and Transformers One

As someone going through my own mental health struggles right now where anxiety has been the predominant overwhelming manifestation, I related so much to this movie... so much so that I was on the verge of tears or outright sobbing the last 20 minutes. I then spent the majority of the next session with my psychologist talking about it. Inside Out 2 has helped me take a step back and look at my anxiety in a new way. Before, I was unable to see anything positive in or any purpose to its existence . Now I am beginning to understand what it is trying to tell me. It has become something so profound and I am so utterly grateful to Pixar for making it. Thank you.

So I’ve apparently been unsubscribed from you for like 6 months (last video to come to me was the wish one) when I didn’t do that? What the heck? 😂 glad to be back!

I loved Inside Out 2. I feel like it expertly built upon the concepts introduced in the first film, introducing new emotions as you age and grow up, creating a belief system (worldview) and a sense of self/identity from your core memories, and representing maturity as an acceptance and balance of the new emotions with the old. I also love how it depicted a Panic Attack as Anxiety trying to take the reigns and get Riley to do 'something', but not quite knowing 'what' to do, causing the emotion and thus Riley to pause and shutdown. I'm also glad that Anxiety wasn't depicted as 'Evil'. It's not. It's an emotion just like any other emotion and serves a purpose for helping Riley but often does more negative for a person if left unchecked, which we see in the movie. As for the people saying "That's not how my anxiety work!". Yeah because Riley was able to grow and mature in a matter of 3 days for the sake of the movie... and because she's a relatively well-adjusted person living a good average life with checks and balances on her emotions. I mean, Anxiety literally tried to "suppress" all the old emotions because they were getting in the way. Anxiety even joked about releasing them when Riley is 18 or Never, because Anxiety can easily take someone over. That's what happened to the people complaining. Your Anxiety suppressed your other emotions and took over, locking them out for a long time, (perhaps even still suppressing them to this day). Riley was able to overcome that new emotion. In fact, I REALLY want to emphasize the ending of the movie. It's not just about having a complete, well-rounded sense of self. It's also about an acceptance and balance of all the emotions a person can experience with the life they've lived. THAT'S Maturity. And it usually takes years for people to develop which is why Adolescence and Puberty is such a pain for people, because their sense of self is changing, new emotions are getting in the way, they're learning and growing and adapting, being pushed into society, talking about their future, etc. It usually takes more than 3 days for a person to accept their anxiety and new emotions. Some people never quite accomplish it.

Just saw this a few days ago in theaters as part of Regal cinemas' Summer Express (yes I saw it for $1) and it was great. Really exceeded my expectations. Stunning animation, solid voice work & a surprisingly really well told narrative with good themes & a solid stake for the Turtles to achieve. I agree with the issue of the bad trope of the Turtles having a romantic interest in April (in this case, its Leo for April). Judging by the trailer for the series, i guess its gonna be followed up on but yeah never liked that idea. Another issue I had was the lack of screen time or development for Utrom or Stockman. I know the former is set to be used more in the series but within the film, not much. Also, yeah I dunno what the deal was with Baxter Stockman's use in the film.

Inside Out 2 was fun for what it was. Especially the part where Anxiety has so much energy that it creates a storm. Or where Anxiety is like "I HAVE A PLAN". What's the plan? Anxiety: *makes it up as it goes and says it's part of a plan* The parts where Riley doesn't know what to say to other people, so they end up lying just to make conversation is accurate 😅

I'm sorry, but I actually completely hated this sequel. There's so much that was established about how the world of the mind works in the first movie that this movie retconned, changed, or just didn't care to stay consistent with. For instance, when the first movie showed the emotions inside the parents' heads, where were the four new emotions from this movie? Also, is this movie implying that until you hit 13, you just NEVER feel anxiety, envy, embarrassment, or ennui? And that inclusion of the tenth emotion, Nostalgia, which wasn't "needed" yet? As if NOBODY feels nostalgia until they're an older teen/adult? Not true. At age ten I was feeling nostalgic over things from when I was six. Also, how is it that Riley is turning 13 yet is already starting high school? The typical age of starting ninth grade is 14 or 15. Something like that is just basic common sense. Also, Riley's puberty basically just hit overnight all at once and all of a sudden she's snappy and anxious and going through extreme mood swings? That's not how puberty works! Especially if she's supposedly about to start high school in the fall. Also, this movie was in general just super unfunny. I didn't laugh or even chuckle once. There was just so much about this sequel that angered me. Yes it has some impressive animation and rendering (such as the sweat on the girls' faces as they played hockey) but that's not enough to warrant this movie's existence.

"That have all just failed to meet company projections. Dominately due to their own freaking fault of not releasing things in theaters..." Partially because of that is why Disney/Pixar movies have been failing recently, but also due to the fact that Disney has become more 'woke,' for less of a better term, and has implemented a lot of LGBTQ content into their movies, that a lot of people don't wanna see. *cough* Strange World... *cough*

I don't know, I feel like they could've gone a more interesting route with puberty instead of dumping everything on the appearance of anxiety... I understand how anxiety and puberty is a very different experiences for everyone, but for me personally teenage years weren't about anxiety, they were about figuring out and discerning what I wanted to do instead of what other people wanted me to do, this was a period when me and my parents couldn't communicate correctly almost speaking different languages. My puberty was more about being misunderstood than anxious)

If the quality remains this good (and not the type of soulless sequels for the sake of sequels), then new Inside out films would be awesome. I'm only a few years apart from Riley and these films are very enjoyable to watch because of how relatable the experience was to what I had during the release of parts 1 and 2. I think for my generation and the younger generation it would be something like a Toy Story franchise

As someone who feels a deep attachment to the first Inside Out, the idea of a sequel really rubbed me the wrong way: It worked as it was and I really didn’t look forward to a continuation, but as the months went by, I saw the trailers, and rewatched Inside Out (where I bawled my eyes out), I went into a the sequel cautious, but overall happy to see these characters again… … and I was pleasantly surprised by it. Is it the first one? No, I don’t think the sequel was ever going to top the first one for me, regardless of its objective quality, but I’m glad the sequel exists and I hope it does for kids and teens what the first one did for me as a teenager. Hearing Anger say, “I can’t always be the rage guy” was extremely validating for me; I relate to him a lot and seeing him grow as a character, as I have as a person, felt so good. I love Inside Out but Inside Out 2 was a valid continuation that I look forward to watching again.

The thing with the movie is that you can unironically laugh at it for how bad it is. It's so universally hated that not even M. Night himself claims it as one of his own. This, however? Just feels intentionally insulting. They've taken well thought out, well written, intelligent and complex characters and turned them into the tropeyest things they possible could. Aang is no longer a fun loving 12 year old who spends half the first season trying to IGNORE that his is the avatar, instead he is a business minded old man of a 12 year old who "has to finish what the Monks wanted him to do" Sokka is no longer the pessimistic, overly confident teenage boy whose ego is bigger than his own head, he's now someone who 100% supports warriors of any kind Katara is no longer the hot headed, strong willed, eager to help, eager to learn bad ass. She's just....girl. That's nothing to say of Iroh, who seems to be channeling his Ember Island counter part at all times, Zuko, who is nowhere near as much of an asshole or villain he is for the first two seasons or Zhao, who is just...there. They had the original series AND Mike and Bryan on their team and they chose to ignore it in favor of "tell, don't show" Oh and the most egregious part is that these characters ARE NOT FRIENDS. They act more like they're together out of convenience rather than comradery.

While you were talking about the idea of Envy, Embarrassment, and Ennui not really being as characterized and not showing as much WHAT they are important for, I've seen some discussion about them that could explain what each emotion is made for, it just wasn't outright SAID. Specifically: (SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE) Envy is the emotion that encompasses desire to fit in and emulate others. She showed this by how she would push Riley to improve herself and, unfortunately, how she often supported what Anxiety would suggest and do. Embarrassment is the emotion that represents taking a step back and reevaluating what you've done so you can improve. He showed this by being the very first one to help the first generation emotions when Anxiety was making Riley do worse things for the sake of improvement. Ennui is the emotion that forces you to stop, slow down, and be a little more chill. She showed this by taking the reigns when she needed to be more cool-headed and, obviously, how she often was laying around on the couch and used her phone to control the panel. Could they all have represented this better or made it more clear for the benefit of the audience? Yes, absolutely. But I think it was still there in more subtle ways you might not consider on a first viewing.

What happens if Riley forgets something it goes into the pit and then someone tells her about it a remembers it. Would the memory light up in the pit and stay like that?

(I’m paraphrasing) “I don’t know how to stop Anxiety. Maybe you can’t. Maybe as you get older, you feel less joy” hit me *HARD*

I honestly didn't know Te-Ka was a twist villain because it was so obvious to me that I didn't even see the twist happen

My favorite moment was at the end when Anxiety was frozen at the consoul and Joy told her it was okay to let go. That's what anxiety does to me, freezes me in place, and when Riley was 'calling' to Joy, wanting her to take hold while she was skating. Oh, that got me in the feeeels...

if they make more sequels with riley getting older, its good cuz it wont feel forced, it feels natural
